Terms of service

1. Who can use Ghostifier

You must be 18 or older and a resident of the United States. You may use Ghostifier only for yourself: to make requests about your own personal information, never someone else's.

2. What Ghostifier does

Ghostifier looks at the headers of the email in your Gmail account to find companies that hold your personal information. With your approval, it unsubscribes you from their marketing, asks them to stop selling or sharing your information, and asks them to delete it, sending privacy requests to them as your authorized agent. It tracks their replies and tells you when something needs you, such as a company asking you to verify your identity or to use its own web form.

On a paid plan, Ghostifier also asks data brokers to delete what they hold about you. These are companies on California's public register of data brokers, and many of them hold information about people who have never dealt with them. Ghostifier sends each one a deletion request, whether or not it ever emailed you, and asks it to search its records and reply either way. A broker may hold nothing about you, may decline, or may need more from you. People-search websites that only take requests through a web form aren't included.

Companies decide how to respond. We can't guarantee that any company will honor a request, respond in time, or delete everything it holds, and some requests may need you to take a step yourself. Privacy rights depend on your state, and some states give fewer rights than others. Ghostifier is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

3. Your account

Give accurate information, confirm that your email address is yours, and keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us at support@ghostifier.com if you think someone else has used it.

4. Appointing Ghostifier as your agent

When you sign the authorization in the app, you appoint Ghostifier as your authorized agent to submit privacy requests on your behalf to the companies you approve, and you confirm that the name, state and email address you give are yours and accurate. You can revoke the authorization at any time in Settings. Revoking it stops new requests; it can't recall requests already sent.

5. Gmail access

Connecting Gmail gives Ghostifier read-only access to your email headers, as described in the privacy policy. You can disconnect it in Settings or in your Google account at any time. Without it, Ghostifier can't find new companies.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • make requests about anyone but yourself, or give false information to us or to a company;
  • use Ghostifier to harass a company or anyone else, or to send anything other than genuine privacy requests;
  • try to get around its limits or security, or access it by automated means we haven't provided;
  • copy, resell or reverse engineer the service, or use it in a way that breaks the law.

7. Fees

Finding the companies that hold your data and unsubscribing from them are free. Opt-out and deletion requests need a paid plan. Prices are on the pricing page, in US dollars, and you see the price before you pay.

  • Cleanup is a one-time payment. It covers opt-out and deletion requests to the companies found by the time you buy it, with follow-ups, and one round of data broker requests.
  • Autopilot is a subscription, billed yearly or monthly, that also covers companies found later. It renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. If its price changes, the new price applies from your next renewal, and we will tell you before then.
  • If you bought Cleanup in the 60 days before starting a yearly Autopilot plan, its price comes off your first year.

You can cancel Autopilot at any time from Settings. It stays active until the end of the period you paid for and isn't charged again. If a renewal payment fails and isn't fixed, Autopilot ends.

Refunds. Write to support@ghostifier.com within 7 days of a payment, whether it is your Cleanup, your first Autopilot payment or a yearly renewal, and we will refund it in full if no request has been sent for it since. Once requests have gone out they can't be recalled, so we can't refund them, unless Ghostifier failed to do what it promised, such as charging you twice or not applying your plan. In that case we will always refund you. Cancelling Autopilot doesn't refund the period already paid.

Plans are sold through Link, Stripe's checkout, which is the seller of record: it takes payment, adds any sales tax where you live, sends your receipts, and appears on your statement as LINK.COM. Its payment terms, shown at checkout, apply to the purchase. We never see or store your card number.

8. Ending your use

You can stop using Ghostifier and delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting it cancels any subscription at once. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk, and will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. We may change or stop the service, and will give reasonable notice before stopping it entirely.

9. Disclaimers

Ghostifier is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will find every company that holds your data, or that any company will act on a request.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Ghostifier will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of Ghostifier or from how any company responds to a request. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $50. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

11. Indemnity

If you break these terms or the law while using Ghostifier, including by making requests about someone else, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of claims against Ghostifier that result.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.

13. Changes to these terms

We will post any change here with a new effective date, and tell you by email or in the app before a material change takes effect. If you keep using Ghostifier after that, the new terms apply.
